The Santa Cruz Children's School was created to provide a quality elementary school program.
The school is owned and operated by the nonprofit Santa Cruz Children's Foundation which is dedicated to providing educational and supportive services enabling children to have a safe, successful childhood. Our overall goal is to give our children the skills necessary to become productive contributing members of our society.
The Santa Cruz Children's Foundation and the Santa Cruz Children's School do not discriminate against any person because of race, religion, color, age or national origin.
- Every child has the right to literacy.
- Science, math and technology must be taught both as a curriculum item and as a way of teaching thinking skills.
- Scientific and technological and human ethics must be taught and explored so that we become a culture capable of intelligent decisions.
- Art and music are an important part of human expression.
- Children come from a broad range of experiences and knowledge and should be grouped developmentally and by interest. Groups need to be fluid and not a permanent track.
- Class sizes must be low. Students need the support of someone who can really know them and their present level of skill and interest. Teachers must have the time to help each child individually.
- Schools should be beautiful, clean and healthful.
- Children should have regular contact with the natural environment.
- A child's understanding is enriched through field trips and first hand experience
